Someone (maybe the author??) described this book as " a user's manual for your brain" and I think that's a perfect description. Bob Hamp talks brain theory, communication, and transformation in a way that's easy to understand. Better yet, there is study guide at the end of each chapter to encourage the reader to dive even deeper.I've read all of Bob's books and this one is the best yet. I've heard him teach this book over the past couple of years an there were still so many more aha's, insights and connections that I made as a result of this book. I can't recommend it highly enough.
This is Bob’s most important and powerful book. He combines many years of counseling and learning experience in brain science, theology, identifying the distortions in thinking that we learn, and how to identify those and replace them. He also continues his parable of the acrobat to show what life is like for those who choose the way to become who they were born to be, and live accordingly.
Mind blown!!!! This is a must read! As a parent this is invaluable, as a speaker this is a great asset, as a life long learner this is super beneficial for sustainable growth!
If you don't buy any other books for the rest of the year (maybe even the rest of your life), GO GET THIS ONE!If you're a communicator (speaker, teacher, pastor, coach, human) who has a message to share, this book will help you deliver it in ways that change the listener, not just dump more information into their ears.I'm internally gushing over an advance copy of this book.My created-and-redeemed-to-be-free self loves the receive-contain-broadcast model that is the foundation of this book.My geeky-language-and-linguistic-loving self is head over heels with the way this book is written.It's making my left brain evaluate and analyze while my right brain has all the heart-emoji-feelings.The way Bob Hamp teaches about spiritual matters and Kingdom connections is refreshing and illuminating.You deserve to read this book.
Think Differently Learn Differently is a book for anyone who wants to communicate a message the fosters change.In the beginning of the book he returns to the Kingdom Parable of the acrobat, which Bob presents in his first book, Think Differently Live Differently.He expounds on the acrobat's life who now helps others learn to fly. They want to learn from someone who is amazing at what they do. But, the acrobat faces the challenge of how others learn and how he can communicate learning to them.Likewise, people with a message to share, like living free in Christ, face challenges in communication. It's not just about communicating the facts, but connection with another's soul in a way that fosters change.The messages Bob communicates are presented in different ways than I've heard anywhere else, which shouldn't be surprising given the titles and content. :) I tend to need to listen and read repeatedly because what strikes me at one level typically is just the beginning.So much of what he has to say lines up with concepts God has revealed to me over time, but he puts words and a framework to it that I haven't been able to do.I'm grateful for his style and the message he shares because God has used it to bring about change in my life and I in turn am better able to influence change in the lives of others.I will be recommending this book to Christian Communicators in Rise Up Writers and to anyone who wants to share soul changing messages with others.Note: I received a PDF copy of this book for review purposes. All opinions are strictly my own.
As a counselor, as a parent, as a human soul looking to impact the world and how to communicate in a way that brings healing and instills hope, this book was invaluable to me. We all have areas of struggle that leave us feeling like we are missing something - stuck in the same old patterns of behavior and thinking that plague us year after year, but Bob Hamp brings to light the significance of belief and that it is only when we understand how we know what we know that we gain the insight to begin to change it.He provides information and exercises for the mind and the spirit, that move from a place of reading to engaging what is being taught so that it becomes a part of your thinking process, and that in the turn, has the power to change your life and the lives of those around you. He uses parable and prose, just as Jesus did, to engage both sides of your brain, both vitally important in receiving information that lasts. In teaching us how to think, we learn, and how we learn allows those lessons to influence not just the mind but the soul within. That is genius!
This is a thoughtful, humorous, engaging book about effective ways to learn and communicate - so, if you ever want to learn anything or speak to anyone, you'll benefit! It is a beautiful and inspiring thing to watch Bob Hamp receive, contain, and broadcast so much goodness from our Sweet Jesus - and in doing so, help us all learn to do the same! Oh the awesome wonderfulness of it all!The scientific information about how our brains function and filter out sometimes valuable information to keep us from getting overwhelmed is enlightening and fascinating. The communication strategies are essential for any teacher, speaker, parent, spouse, manager, or human. Most importantly, though, the continuation and deepening of his Parable of the Acrobat brings even more power to the allegory, breaks through barriers, and touches the heart as it echoes the true story of all of us. If you desire a deeper, more meaningful connection with God and the people in your life, the strategies in this book will help you achieve it.
