Having recently bid my three year old an angelic trip hope due to having drowned in our empty pool with rain water trapped in the deep end, the mourning has been ongoing since. A good friend and Christian physchologist recommended the book. Reading through it helped me to recommit to holding on to my faith no matter what. Same day my baby descended home I was full of praise for God's grace upon my life. So when a few hours later I found my baby floating in water my first thought was, I will hold on to my faith even in this situation. All I could see was how my faith was being tested and how I needed to stay on the path lest I not be in eternity with my angel again. Thank you for the comforting message and examples shared by others of their walk of faith. Indeed we live to die and die to live

The problem of evil and pain in light of a sovereign and loving God is one of the hardest topics to address in Christianity, and so many, even strong Christians, come up against painful circumstances in their lives and have their faith greatly shaken, if not lost altogether. James Dobson takes the difficulties head on and answers them with great compassion, a wealth of biblical knowledge, and an abundance of personal experience, as he has been counseling for many years.I appreciated the answers he gives on this subject: that everyone is subject to the tragedies and pain in a fallen world, that we don't always know what God is doing, that God is seeking to draw us to Himself and strengthen our faith, and that ultimately everything is meaningful and is used by God for the greater good, though it may be impossible for us to perceive and comprehend this in our lifetime. Overall this was an incredibly encouraging book for me personally, and I highly recommend anyone who has interest to read it for some clear answers that are powerfully uplifting and encouraging.

If you have had a tragedy in your life you will never be the same...you will either be worse off than before (angry, bitter, resentful, and feeling like you have been betrayed), or you can be stronger than before (growing from the lessons learned, learning how to help others avoid your tragedy (or recover from a similar tragedy, etc). When I suddenly lost my son I can look back at that time & confidently say that this book was one of the biggest things that helped me get through that tragedy. It's important that we try our best to understand the nature of God, from the truth of his word, rather than to be fooled by misinformation & misunderstanding.

Everyone should read this book and watch Andy Stanley's 3 part series "When God?" It's time God's people understand the tough realities of faith and hardship. Christians suffer & it has nothing to do with how much God loves them.Seriously, read this book & buy several to give away. This is the common man's version of CS Lewis's "The Problem of Pain". And you ought to read that too!

After my father passed my mother was quickly diagnosed with possible early onset Alzheimer's along with great clinical depression. I struggled to see the "God lesson" in this pain! The great why haunted me. This book has helped me reconcile my anger and frustration at God and remember why I followed Jesus in the first place! Thank you for helping me through this tough time!

I have listened to Dr. Dobson for many years. He is a true follower of Christ. This book is solid in its doctrine. I would recommend it to anyone, rather you are struggling with loss or not.

Great book that explains much about the age old question "why do bad things happen to good people" as well as common sense explanations of other Christian doctrines that many Christians struggle with.
